‘Supergirl’ Season 2 Finale Spoilers: Kara, Superman Fight Each Other In New Set Photos

Kara (Melissa Benoist) will find herself facing off against her cousin, Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), in Season 2 finale of “Supergirl.”
Benoist and Hoechlin were spotted filming a fight scene in Vancouver’s Robson Square on Thursday night. And based on the set photos shared by YVRShoots, it seems that Kara has the upper hand in the fist fight.

Chyler Leigh and Floriana Lima were also on the outdoor set. In a video uploaded by a fan on Twitter, Leigh and Lima watch Benoist and Hoechlin’s stunt doubles exchange blows — a fight that ends up with the Girl of Steel knocking the Man of Steel down. It’s unclear whether or not Leigh and Lima’s characters, Alex and Maggie, are part of the sequence, but it’s noticeable that the pair was reacting to the explosions that came with the intense scene.

Before filming the showdown between Kara and Superman, Benoist and Hoechlin also filmed a fight scene with Mark Gibbon, who plays villain General Zod. Although it’s unclear whether or not Gibbon’s version of Zod has the same powers as his comic book counterpart, it’s likely that the Kryptonian baddie has something to do with Kara and Superman fighting each other.
In the comics, Zod is a former Kryptonian military general. He was exiled to the Phantom Zone for treason thanks to Jor-El’s efforts. When General Zod survived the destruction of Krypton, he then swore revenge against Jor-El’s son, Superman. Zod, who is a member of the Kryptonian Military Guild and the Phantom Zoners, was created by Robert Bernstein and George Papp. He first appeared in “Adventure Comics” #283 in 1961.

In addition to Superman, Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) also returns to National City in the season finale. “With the return of Superman and Cat Grant we are poised for our biggest most exciting episode of the season,” executive producer Kreisberg told TVLine of the season ender. “Big fights, big guest stars, big emotion — it’s going to be amazing.”
Hoechlin made his debut as the Man of Steel in “Supergirl” Season 2 premiere, where he helped his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) save Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) from an assassination attempt. He stuck around for Season 2, episode 2, where he fought the classic Superman villain, Metallo (Frederick Schmidt).
Like Superman, a.k.a. Clark Kent, Cat was also last seen in Season 2, episode 2. In that episode, she decided to take a leave of absence from CatCo Worldwide Media to find better things to accomplish after she felt stagnant in the world of media she had already dominated. Before she left CatCo, Cat promoted James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) to be her stand-in while she’s away.
Kreisberg also revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the content of the box — which Lillian Luthor (Brenda Strong) found among Lex Luthor’s weapons in the Cadmus bunker in Season 1, episode 12 — will play a key role in the finale.
“Supergirl” Season 2 finale (episode 22) is slated to air on Monday, May 22 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
