“Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist revealed that Season 3, episode 3 of the CW series has some similarities to an “Indiana Jones” movie.

“That episode feels like an ‘Indiana Jones’ movie when I read it,” Benoist told Entertainment Weekly of next week’s installment, which sees Kara (Benoist) joining J’onn (David Harewood) on a personal mission to Mars. “I immediately gave props to all the writers for that. It’s such an adventure. In Kara’s foray into embracing her alienness, it’s really great to see her, and it was great to feel her, being on another planet. She was used to space travel when she was a kid, so it does feel like it comes pretty natural to her, especially now that she gets to do it with J’onn and travel to J’onn’s home planet with this really important mission to save Mars. It’s a really fun and epic adventure. Those sets were amazing.”

In the trailer for the episode, Kara initially tries to stop J’onn from returning to his home planet. “Going back would be a suicide mission,” Kara tells him. But J’onn has already made up his mind. So instead of letting J’onn go to Mars alone, the Girl of Steel decides to come with him.

At some point in the promo clip, J’onn declares that he’s the “only Green Martian left.” But M’gann (Sharon Leal) corrects him and reveals that there’s another Green Martian who has survived the massacre of their race. It turns out that Green Martian is none other than J’onn’s father, M’yrnn J’onzz (Carl Lumbly).

As previously reported, J’onn’s reunion with M’yrnn will make J’onn realize how much he has been humanized since his arrival on Earth.

“J’onn has always felt like an alien. He spent 300 years on Earth and he’s always felt different, and other, and felt people were afraid of him, and has always had to hide who he really was,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month. “[But] the irony is he becomes reconnected with his father and his father thinks, ‘Oh my God, you’ve gone so Earth-man.’ So … J’onn, [realizes] that he’s not quite the alien that he thought he was.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Eliza (Helen Slater) throws Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) a wedding shower, which causes the latter to reach out to her estranged father, Oscar Rodas (Carlos Bernard).

“Supergirl” Season 3, episode 3, titled “Far From the Tree,” airs on Monday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
