‘Supergirl’ Season 3 Spoilers: ‘No Tomorrow’s’ Jesse Rath Cast As Brainiac 5
“No Tomorrow” alum Jesse Rath has landed a recurring role on “Supergirl.”
According to TVLine, Rath will play Brainiac 5, a half-computer, half-organic life with a 12-level intellect in Season 3 of the CW series. Brainiac 5 is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes who travels to National City from the 31st Century to help Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the DEO battle Reign (Odette Annable).
Rath is set to make his first appearance in Season 3, episode 10. “Episode 10 is called ‘Legion of Super-Heroes,’ and you can’t call it that without having the Legion of Super-Heroes in it,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told the news outlet. “We’ve hinted at the Legion going back to Season 1, when we saw the Legion ring in the Fortress of Solitude, so the Legion will have a presence.”
When asked about the timing of the Legion’s arrival, Kreisberg said: “Supergirl is about to face her greatest nemesis in the three years that we’ve been doing the show — we feel that Reign is the best villain we’ve ever had — so it’s going to take all the allies that she can muster to take Reign down. The Legion will be playing a big part in that.”
In the comics, the Girl of Steel travels to the 31st century to fight alongside the Legion of Super-Heroes, and during that time, Supergirl grew to be more than just teammates with Brainiac 5. Based on a previous interview with the EP, it seems that Rath’s version of Brainiac 5 will also develop romantic feelings with Kara. “Someone down the road will like Kara a lot, which will be a lot of fun,” Kreisberg told TVLine last month.
Brainiac 5 is the second member of the Legion of Super-Heroes to be cast on “Supergirl.” Last September, it was announced that Bollywood star Amy Jackson was tapped to play Saturn Girl, a founding member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Could the other founders of Legion of Super-Heroes, Cosmic Boy and Lightning Lad, come to “Supergirl” as well? Tell us what you think in the comments section below!
“Supergirl” Season 3 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
