‘Supergirl’ Star Melissa Benoist Reveals The ‘Intimidating Part’ Of Her Directorial Debut
Melissa Benoist has been rocking the Supergirl suit for several seasons, but it’s time to step into a new role: director. The Kara Danvers actress will step behind the camera in Season 5.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Benoist will direct “Supergirl” Season 5, episode 17, which will air this spring. The actress has wanted to helm an installment for quite a while, and scheduling finally worked out this year. She’ll shadow a couple of directors this season, including Jesse Warn and Tawnia McKiernan, before eventually directing her episode.
She’ll also be acting in the hour she directs, and Benoist is a little nervous about that. She said directing herself is “the one intimidating part because I don’t know how people do that,” she told EW. “But luckily, I’m surrounded by a bunch of people that are really supportive and we can divvy out responsibility. I don’t know how a brain can split like that.”
“Supergirl” Season 4 featured Martian Manhunter actor David Harewood’s directorial debut. The CW’s DC TV shows seem to welcome actors directing. “The Flash” stars Danielle Panabaker and Tom Cavanaugh have both directed, and David Ramsey also made his directorial debut on “Arrow” earlier this year.
Fans will get more details about “Supergirl” Season 5 at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. The superhero show’s panel will be held Saturday at 4:15 p.m. PDT in Ballroom 20, and it will include a Q&A with cast members and producers.
“Supergirl” Season 5 is currently filming in Vancouver. It will premiere Sunday, Oct. 6 at 9 p.m EDT on The CW.
