Superhero TV Shows Premiering And Returning In 2017
It’s a big year for superheroes in the movies, but there are going to be even more vigilantes on the small screen. DC and Marvel both have a ton of shows to fill your TV schedule nearly every night of the week. Favorites like “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Supergirl” will return while new additions like “Iron Fist” and “Legion” will show new origin stories. Check out all the 2017 Marvel and DC TV shows below:
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4 — Jan. 10 at 10 p.m. on ABC
The ABC show is having its shortest winter hiatus in years. “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will return to explore Life Model Decoys (LMDs) in the second half of Season 4. Aida (Mallory Jansen) could be a great asset, but it seems like she might be going down the opposite path. The winter finale ended with her keeping the real May hostage and replacing her with a LMD.
“Gotham” Season 3 — Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. on Fox
A familiar face returns when this DC show comes back to TV. Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) might manage to come back from the dead. A follower of the Joker-like character will be trying to resurrect the redhead in the winter premiere.
“Supergirl” Season 2 — Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. on the CW
In the 2017 episodes, Kara (Melissa Benoist) will face off against Roulette (Dichen Lachman) again, but it’s Winn (Jeremy Jordan) facing a new challenge. He’ll head out on his first mission with the DEO.
“The Flash” Season 3 — Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. on the CW
Barry (Grant Gustin) just can’t stop changing the timeline. After seeing that Iris (Candice Patton) will die, he is determined to keep alter the past. But can he really stop Savitar from killing her?
“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 — Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. on the CW
“Legends” moves to a new timeslot for the second half of Season 2. In the winter premiere, the gang will head back to 1967 after learning that Rip (Arthur Darvill) is a director there. They’ll meet George Lucas (Matt Angel), and they’ll have to stop him from dropping out of film school.
“Arrow” Season 5 — Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. on the CW
After killing Billy Malone (Tyler Ritter), Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) new boyfriend, Oliver (Stephen Amell) seemed to be headed for a dark struggle in Season 5. However, the return of Laurel (Katie Cassidy) brightened things up. Find out how she returned and if it’s really the Black Canary we know and love when the CW drama returns.
“Powerless” Season 1 — Feb. 2 at 8:30 p.m. on NBC
NBC is finally adding a superhero show to their lineup, but this isn’t the gritty fare that many other networks have. This is a half-hour comedy set at Wayne Security. Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) is the new director of research and development. She’ll help make products that let innocent bystanders feel safer when superheroes and villains destroy their cities.
“Legion” Season 1 — Feb. 8 at 10 p.m. on FX
David Haller (Dan Stevens) is a schizophrenic, or so he thinks. He’s actually a mutant and the son of Charles Xavier. It isn’t until he meets a fellow patient at a mental institution that he starts to believe his visions aren’t just an illness. “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley is the showrunner.
“Iron Fist” Season 1 — March 17 on Netflix
Netflix is adding another superhero to the gang. Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns to New York to fight corruption. Luckily, he has become a trained martial artist and can summon the powers of Iron Fist to help.
“The Inhumans” — September on ABC
This ABC series won’t debut on TV first. Audiences will be able to get their first look in IMAX movie theaters. The show follows a group of humans/alien hybrids known as Inhumans. The group has been introduced on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” but the show will further explore the superpowered beings.
“Defenders” Season 1 — TBA on Netflix
With the introduction of Iron Fist, the Defenders can finally come together. Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist will team up to defend New York City. They’ll be fighting a villainous character played by Sigourney Weaver.
“The Punisher” Season 1 — TBA on Netflix
Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) was introduced in “Daredevil” Season 2, but fans will get to know him even better when he gets his own series. The vigilante fights crime with lethal force, so expect the drama to be violent.
