“Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki and his wife, Genevieve Cortese, are such doting parents to their three kids.

Earlier this month, the actor penned a heartfelt letter to his children, where he thanked them for coming into his life and turning it upside down. Cortese, who was also touched by her husband’s sweet gesture, posted a copy of the letter on her Now and Gen blog on Wednesday, June 28.

Cortese acknowledged the fact that their kids might still be too young to appreciate their dad’s deed. But she’s hopeful that when they grow up, they would realize how great their father truly is. Cortese, who is obviously madly in love with her husband, also said that Padalecki has found his calling in this world and that is to become a father.

In his letter, Padalecki said that Father’s Day is supposed to be for people like him who are dads. But he wouldn’t be one if not for his three children. “But as the ‘father’ in this relationship, I wanted to change things up a bit. Specifically, I wanted to take this opportunity, after my fifth father’s day (and counting), not to say ‘you’re welcome,’ but to say, ‘thank you,’” he wrote.

Padalecki then went on to list down all of the random things he wants to thank his three kids for, which includes using him as their punching bag, giving him sleepless nights, turning his trailer into a jungle gym, making him chase them down the street and more. Towards the end of his letter, the “Friday the 13th” actor said that his kids have humbled him and helped him rediscover the joy of discovery.

Cortese and Padalecki are parents to Thomas Colton, 5, Austin Shepherd, 3, and Odette Elliott, 3 months. In 2014, the actor spoke with People to say that he’s very protective of his family time. “I am violently protective of my – I call it my off time – when I’m not working. I’m straight home and whether they’re in Vancouver or they’re in Seattle or wherever we happen to be I’m straight to them,” he said.
