‘Superstore’ 3 Spoilers: America Ferrera, EP Justin Spitzer Tease ‘Crazy-Dark’ Halloween Episode
Things are about to take a dark turn in “Superstore” Season 3 in its Halloween episode.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Justin Spitzer said that the upcoming installment will be very different from the usual light and hilarious episodes of the hit NBC TV series. “The Halloween episode is crazy dark. It’s a very morbid episode. It really hits the blacker elements of Halloween,” he said.
“Superstore” lead star America Ferrera also expressed her excitement over the characters wearing Halloween costumes. “Our Halloween episode is always a great episode because we get to get out of our daily vest looks and into something more fun. And I am very, very excited about my costume this year on the show,” she said.
Spitzer confirmed that Ferrera’s Amy will transform into Selena, which was her own idea. “The last two years, Justin has asked me what I wanted to be because it hasn’t really played a role in the story line. So I think most of us get to choose what we want to be as long as it has something to do with the storyline,” she explained.
The exec also shared what costumes some of the characters will wear in the upcoming episode. “We thought Dina (Lauren Ash) looked awesome in her Halloween costume last year so we put her in it again. And Glenn (Mark McKinney) is in another costume that speaks of childlike innocence,” he shared.
But before the Halloween episode, there’s still one important storyline that will be addressed in the series. There are speculations that either Brett (Jon Miyahara) or Sal (Sean Whalen) will be killed off. In the finale episode for Season 2, Brett was seen standing outdoors when the tornado hit. But Season 3, episode 3 is titled “Sal is Dead,” which suggests that the Cloud 9 employee may die. Unfortunately, no other details about episode 3 have been released so it is unclear if Sal will die due to the tornado or other causes.
“Superstore” Season 3 will premiere on NBC on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. EDT.
