Ricki Stern, one of the directors of the upcoming documentary “Surviving Jeffrey Epstein,” has revealed that Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest changed the narrative of their project. The helmer noted that the documentary will now also tell the viewers what happened after Maxwell was arrested by the law enforcement authorities.
Stern, who is known for directing a plethora of documentaries, also shared that she and co-director Annie Sundberg kept on shooting the project after Maxwell’s arrest. Stern believes that the inclusion of Maxwell’s arrest will be an “uplifting end” to the story, USA Today reported citing the filmmaker’s interview with the Television Critics Association (TCA).
She also explained that the upcoming documentary is as much about the former pal of Epstein as it is about the women who faced years of sexual abuse at the hands of the late financier.
“It is as much about Ghislaine’s arrest as it is about the women having this moment to say, 'We are going to get our day in court. This is going to be a moment ’. Our series really takes you up until the present day right now. We literally finished it yesterday, and it’s going on air in a week. The fact that Ghislaine has been arrested really adds a much more uplifting end to the story, and it’s just the beginning. So I’m sure there will be a follow-up,” Stern said during the interview.
Meanwhile, Britanny Henderson, the attorney of the survivors, was also present during the discussion and revealed that her clients who did not personally know Maxwell were feeling so happy that she has finally been caught.
“Even our clients who didn’t personally know Ghislaine Maxwell still felt this huge sense of justice that our justice system is still paying attention to them, they still care, and there’s still justice that can be brought to the survivors even in the death of Jeffrey Epstein,” Henderson said during the discussion.
The documentary will be a four-hour special and its announcement came just a week after Maxwell was arrested on multiple charges.
“Surviving Jeffrey Epstein” will be making its way to Lifetime on Aug. 9 and will feature a plethora of interviews from the survivors as well as journalists who covered the case.
