In the last season of the Freeform series “Switched at Birth” many of the characters were forced to make difficult decisions and in Season 5 they will see the consequences and benefits of their choices.

“Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay (Vanessa Marano) receive an emergency phone call while in China and return home, where Daphne readjusts to campus life and Bay feels conflicted about her feelings for Emmett (Sean Berdy),” the synopsis for “Switched at Birth” Season 5, episode 1, titled “The Call,” teases.

Viewers last saw Bay and Daphne decide to head to China for the summer. Daphne wanted to spend her summer helping deaf children which resulted in Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch) breaking up with her. Meanwhile Bay, who is in slight denial over her feelings for Emmett, found out Travis (Ryan Lane) was in love with her.

In the Season 4 finale Bay rushed to Daphne telling her that they need to return home. In a sneak-peek video of the Freeform series premiere, viewers can see Daphne and Bay sitting on a bench in China waiting for someone.

It is evident that Bay invited someone to visit but it is unclear who will be arriving. From the conversation, it seems like it is a male who Bay has history with and she is nervous to see him. Could it be Emmett?

In another sneak peek of “Switched at Birth” Season 5 premieres viewers see Daphne return to school only to feel like an outsider among her friends. Could the mysterious call be the reason their relationship has been strained?

“Meanwhile, Kathryn (Lea Thompson) and John (D.W. Moffett) argue about her job,” the synopsis says. Last season we saw Kathryn and John come close to ending their marriage but they eventually reconciled. However, it looks like their problems will plague them once again.

“Regina (Constance Marie) feels guilty about a secret romance,” the synopsis continues. In another sneak peek, we see Regina and Daphne speaking with another student at her college, Luca (Michael Galante) and the two collegians seem to get along well. However, in the promo for “Switched at Birth” Season 5 we see Regina kissing this same guy and him later telling her that he doesn’t care about her age. Will Daphne found out about her mother’s latest romance?
