T-Mobile Launches TVision TV Service: How Much Will It Cost You?
T-Mobile (TMUS) has officially launched its TVision Home TV subscription service. The new TV viewing platform is T-Mobile’s rebranded and upgraded version of its previously named Layer3 TV service, which is purchased in 2017. The debut date for TVision is slated for April 14.
T-Mobile’s TVision service will initially be available in Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York City, and Longmont, Colorado, which are the same service areas where Layer3 was previously been available, TechCrunch reported.
The TVision service will be made available to subscribers for $100 per month with access to more than 150 channels. Current T-Mobile customers will be offered a $9.99 discount per month, which will also be offered to all subscribers to start for a limited time.
The TV lineup for TVision includes local broadcast stations, regional sports stations, and other pay-TV channels. According to T-Mobile over 275 channels will be available under the full-service plan as well as 400 hours of HD DVR service that can record multiple channels at once.
The new subscription TV service also offers users voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant and Nest security camera access. There is also 4K content and a catalog of more than 35,000 on-demand movies and shows, including access to Prime Video with an Amazon Prime membership.
Users of the TV service will also have access to their social media accounts and be able to stream apps such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, HSN, XUMO, CuriosityStream, and Toon Googles. T-Mobile also has plans in the works to add Netflix, YouTube, and YouTube Kids to the TVision service, Tech Crunch reported.
The launch of TVision comes as T-Mobile awaits approval of its merger with Sprint and plans its rollout of 5G. According to Mike Sievert, president and COO at T-Mobile, “5G will transform entertainment” and combining it with its TVision service will “disrupt entertainment and give customers better ways to get the content they care about.”
Shares of T-Mobile stock were up 1.04 percent at market close on Wednesday.
