Wuhan Doctors Reveal Recovered Coronavirus Patients Again Test Positive

Doctors in Wuhan reveal that up to 10% of recovered COVID-19 patients in the city again tested positive for the virus. The tests were conducted after the patients were discharged from the hospital. Researchers around the globe have been trying to find out if recovered patients can still infect people with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, or whether they have developed antibodies. Generally, such antibodies would offer immunity from the disease.

COVID-19 Facts: Antibody Test Details And If You Can Be Immune To The Infection

Governments of various countries around the world are finding ways to deal with the global pandemic caused by a coronavirus. The crucial first step is conducting tests on people suspected to be infected by COVID-19. In the case of the UK, the National Health Service is planning to conduct at least 10,000 tests per day. They are also taking into consideration having an antibody test, which may provide insight if there can be some immunity against the coronavirus.

How Long Should You Wait Until You Get Your COVID-19 Test Results?

The government has urged medical facilities to double their efforts in conducting tests for patients suspected to be infected with COVID-19. One of the methods that government health advisers want to use is the new antibody test, which identifies those who have already had coronavirus infection. How long does it usually take for you to get your results back?

Researchers Focus On Testing Antibodies To Battle COVID-19

The researchers of Manhattan's Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have focused their attention to developing COVID-19 tests using antibodies. The tests could provide a more accurate picture of infection and fatality rate, could determine which individuals have high antibody levels that could combat the disease which makes them fit to care for coronavirus patients with minimal to no risk, and most importantly, the antibody-rich blood component (convalescent plasma) of COVID-19 survivors could be donated and transfused to critically ill patients to stimulate their immune systems to fight off the virus.
