It seems the force is going to be really strong with this one.
After the success of the latest “Star Wars” movie “The Rise Of Skywalker,” the franchise is going to take a much-needed break to come up with some new ideas on how to take the franchise to a more promising direction, and it looks like the work on rebuilding the series has already started.
According to Variety, “Thor” director Taika Waititi is in negotiations to develop a new “Star Wars” movie although the details of the negotiations are still under wraps. It will be interesting to see what Waititi can bring to the franchise and how the movie will be different from the one that Marvel boss Kevin Feige is working on.
The “Jojo Rabbit” helmer is no stranger to the world of the highly-successful sci-fi fantasy series. Waititi directed the final episode of season one of “The Mandalorian.” The series turned out to be a massive hit for Disney and Waititi was praised for his directing skills in the season’s finale episode.
In 2017, it was reported that Rian Johnson is also attached to develop a new “Star Wars” trilogy after his movie “The Last Jedi” was labeled as a massive hit. But last year, the “Knives Out” director revealed that Lucasfilm is still working on the timeline of the movie.
“The truth is they are still figuring out their schedule, their game plan,” Johnson said at that time.
The last movie in the Skywalker saga might not have done well with the critics, but it keeps on ticking the cash counters as the film has already crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office and is poised to earn more. Apart from box office success, the film has also been nominated for three Academy Awards, which includes Original Score, Visual Effects and Sound Editing.
The film stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, and Kelly Marie Tran in pivotal roles.
On the other hand, Waititi is riding high on the success of his latest film “Jojo Rabbit.” The movie was received well by the critics as well as the audiences due to which it accumulated six Oscar nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Waititi is nominated for writing the screenplay while Scarlet Johansson was included in the list of actresses competing for the Best Supporting Actress trophy.
The other noms it received include Best Costume Design, Production Design and Film Editing.
