Takumi Minamino To Leave Anfield After Liverpool Reach Agreement With This Club [Details]
KEY POINTS
- Takumi Minamino is contracted with Liverpool until 2024
- But he wants to leave to get regular game time
- Minamino ends his Liverpool career with 14 goals in 55 games
Liverpool FC forward Takumi Minamino is reportedly set to join Ligue 1 side Monaco AS after the two clubs reached an agreement.
Minamino is contracted with Liverpool until 2024 and Monaco are set to pay around $19 million for the Japanese forward, BBC Sport reported.
Monaco will beat the likes of Southampton and Leeds United in the race to sign Minamino, according to Goal. The agreed fee is a little lower than Liverpool's original asking price but it is considered a good deal at Anfield as they had paid around half that fee when Minamino moved to Merseyside from RB Salzburg in January 2020.
The player has decided to part ways with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in order to play regularly. He netted 14 goals in 55 outings for the Reds and out of them, 10 came last season. He was their top scorer in domestic cup competitions last season. Minamino's seven goals were crucial in Liverpool's successful FA Cup and League Cup campaigns.
However, he made just 11 appearances, including one start, in the league as the Anfield side missed out on the title by just a point.
Minamino spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Southampton, scoring twice in 10 Premier League games, before returning to Anfield last summer.
Apart from Minamino, Liverpool are set to lose one of their key players this summer – Sadio Mane, who is close to joining Bayern Munich on a three-year deal. Klopp has already signed replacements in the form of forwards Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez. In fact, the Uruguayan striker moved from Benfica to Liverpool at a club-record fee of $104 million.
The Reds landed teenage midfielder Carvalho from Fulham at $6 million, while they have also signed a full-back this summer – Aberdeen's Calvin Ramsay. Liverpool paid around $5 million for the Scottish defender. Both the deals could potentially increase with add-ons.
