‘Tales Of Berseria’ Trailer Released After Japanese Festival Premiere
The "Tales Of" series has always been a big hit among fans of Japanese role-playing games (RPG), and the upcoming “Tales of Berseria” will likely be no exception. After the initial announcement, publisher Bandai Namco has released the first “Tales of Berseria” trailer, which showcases the game’s new world and an interesting look at the game’s lone female protagonist, Velvet.
The trailer suggests that sailing will be a very important feature in “Tales of Berseria.” After all, when news first broke about the game, it was revealed early on that Velvet would be a pirate, so it’s quite fitting to see sailing as part of the game.
The game takes place in the kingdom of Midgand, which is supposedly a land of extreme climates and the main reason why Velvet has to travel by boat so much. Sailing is not just important to the protagonist, however, as Destructoid stated that sailing will be a key element to Midgand society, so it seems like sailing is in the blood of the people, though time will tell if they’re all pirates or not.
According to Game Informer, this trailer was previously seen at the “Tales Of” festival that happened in Japan, so the video is nothing new to Japanese fans who attended the festival. But this is the first time that Western gamers get to see what is in store for them.
If the trailer has any major disappointments, aside from how brief and vague it is about the game’s story, it’s probably the lack of combat shown. The “Tales Of” series has always been well known for its fast-paced and real-time combat system. It’s unclear if that will return in “Tales of Berseria,” or if the game will introduce naval combat like in “Assassin’s Creed 4.”
“Tales of Berseria” is currently in development for Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, with no release date given for Japan or North America. In the meantime, fans can look forward to “Tales of Zestiria,” which is getting a U.S. release this year for PS3.
