Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' Could Break A New Record, But Has Already Resulted In Another Achievement
On July 23, Taylor Swift surprised her fans by announcing in a series of Instagram posts that her eighth studio album, "Folklore," was on the way. Swifties had been awaiting TS8 for some time leading up to its official release and a new first-week sales forecast indicates that their devotion to the "Cardigan" singer could help her earn a new achievement.
The latest number from HitsDailyDouble indicates that the surprise release of "Folklore" could help Swift move 650,000 units in its first week. If she does hit that milestone, this would make it the biggest 2020 album debut so far. At this time, Juice WRLD's posthumous project, "Legends Never Die," holds that that record with 517,800 album-equivalent units.

Before the official first-week numbers come in, Swift has earned another achievement following the release of "Folklore." The album, which features a collaboration with "Skinny Love" musician Bon Iver, already broke Spotify's first-day streaming numbers for most streams for a debut album (80.6M) and song ("the 1") by a female.
As stated by Variety, Swift also earned the "the most-streamed pop album on Apple Music in 24 hours" after having her work streamed 35.47M times. Additionally, "Folklore" set the U.S. and Worldwide Amazon Music Indie/Alternative Streaming record.

Leading up to its debut, Swift discussed her new collection of songs, which followed 2019's "Lover."
After revealing that she had written and recorded the music in isolation amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, she gave Swifties an extra hint of insight as she discussed her decision surrounding the album's release.
"Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed," she wrote on Instagram, adding, "My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with."
