TCL's Palm Pepito Android Smartphone Revealed To Have Small Display, Battery

TCL is planning to revive the Palm brand by releasing a new Android smartphone. A purported render for the upcoming Palm smartphone has been leaked online and it features a very small screen.

The render for the device was shared online by Android Police. The image shows the Palm smartphone, believed to be called Pepito, sporting a small 3.3-inch LCD display. According to Android Police’s source, the display only features a 720p HD screen resolution. Inside the handset is a tiny battery that has an 800 mAh capacity. The source also shared an image of the handset’s battery.

The Palm Pepito appears to be unusually small, especially with smartphones today touting displays that are larger than 6 inches. The Palm smartphone is so small that its screen is actually smaller than the display on the Pre 3, the last Palm phone released when the brand was still owned by HP, as pointed out by The Verge. The HP Pre 3 was equipped with a 3.55-inch display.

The Palm Pepito smartphone is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There’s no information yet if the device will have other storage and RAM configurations, but that seems likely. However, it’s also possible that some configurations of the Palm smartphone may only be available depending on region and carrier. The popular rumor right now is that the device will be sold through Verizon in the United States.

Going back to the design of the phone, the Palm Pepito appears to have a single camera on its back and another single camera up front. Unfortunately, there is no information about the camera sensors that the device is equipped with yet. The back of the phone also features the Palm logo, while the right side of the deice seems to house the power button.

There’s no word yet on what materials are being used to build this phone, but based on the render, it seems like TCL is going for a metal and glass combo for the Palm Pepito. The phone will also be available in titanium and gold color options in the U.S. On the software side of things, the Palm Pepito is said to be running Android 8.1 Oreo.

The Palm Android smartphone is a low-end device with a small screen and a small battery, but it could still be hiding a few surprises that might convince people to get it. At the very least, the device should arrive with a cheap price that can make it a great back-up phone.
