Teacher Had Sex With 11-Year-Old Student Over 100 Times In Hotel Rooms

A former Michigan school teacher, who was accused of repeatedly having sex with an 11-year-old student, will face trial after a three-day preliminary examination. Heather Winfield, 38, an ex-Alpena Public Schools special education teacher, could end up in prison for life for her actions, local media reported over the weekend.

On Friday, witnesses and law enforcement took to the stand testifying in the case. The victim, now 14 years old, also testified saying he and Winfield had sex more than 100 times in several hotel rooms in Alpena. Winfield was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child younger than 13 years old and individual counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct during the commission of a felony, third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child aged 13 to 15 years old, second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child younger than 13 years old, accosting a minor for immoral purposes, and using a computer to commit a crime.

Winfield's lawyer told Judge Thomas LaCross on Friday that the case should be thrown out due to the lack of physical evidence. He also questioned the boy's credibility as he had given conflicting statements about the number of times he had sex.

This was one of the recent cases where a teacher was accused of engaging in sexual acts with a student.

In late February, an Illinois high school teacher was arrested and charged for having sex with a student at her home. Baylee Ashton Turner resigned from Sarcoxie High School after allegations surfaced of her sexual relations with a student. The 23-year-old, an English teacher, reportedly admitted to police that she had sex with one of her students in mid-January. According to court documents, the victim also confirmed being involved in a physical relationship with the teacher.

In another incident in January, a Florida substitute teacher was arrested after being accused of performing oral sex on a 15-year-old and sending her nude pictures to three other students. Angela Jean Stanton, 50, was taken into custody on Jan. 23 after a high school principal in the Citrus County School District informed officials of a possible inappropriate relationship between the teacher and student.
