An Arkansas teacher could be fired after he posted a racist Facebook post about first lady Michelle Obama. Trent Bennett, a high school instructor in rural Malvern, wrote on the social media network: "Michelle Obummer … America’s First Chimp."

His remarks were later taken down, but when Bennett was first challenged about his post, he replied: "Just good to see that nasty chimp and her spider monkey husband gone for good."

The Malvern School District confirmed it was investigating Bennett over his post. School officials said his comments were "inappropriate, insensitive, and used racially charged rhetoric."

The local NAACP chapter said Bennett should not be able to return to his job when school resumes after the holiday break. Others have called on parents and students to boycott Malvern High School’s sporting events until Bennett is fired.

“There is no place in an educational system for someone in a public position of authority that is willing to publicly make the comments that you are alleged to have made,” Arkansas State Conference NAACP President Rizelle Aaron said in a letter to the teacher.

Tabitha Hughes, who graduated from the high school in 1991, said she had never seen such ugly remarks from the school's faculty.

"We've never had this problem before," Hughes told local media. "I guess that's why it's disturbing to us." She added: "We want something done about it."

Hughes said Bennett was the teacher to her niece and nephew. “A lot of kids read that. It’s very heartbreaking that they are having to go into that school and feel a certain type of way now,” she said.

Obama has been the target of racist social media users before. Pamela Taylor, head of the Clay County Development Corporation in West Virginia, was fired after she called the first lady in a November post an “ape in heels.” Beverly Whaling, the mayor of Clay, resigned after agreeing with Taylor's comments on social media. Michelle Herren, an anesthesiologist in Denver, also left her job after she claimed Obama had a “monkey face” and “poor ebonic English.”
