Teacher Rapes 13-Year-Old Student Inside School Premises, Impregnates Girl, Search Underway For Accused

A 13-year-old girl was raped and impregnated by her teacher in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said Sunday.

According to local reports, the unidentified grade seven student was raped by the accused, identified as Rashid Anwar Khan, on the premises of a government school two months ago. Following the incident, the accused warned the girl of serious consequences if she told anyone about it.

Last week, the victim was taken to a hospital by her parents after she complained of health issues. The doctors informed the parents that the girl was pregnant. The following day, the accused took the girl to a private hospital and forced her to undergo an abortion. His associate, identified as Sukhlal, also helped the man in the crime.

On Friday, the parents filed a police complaint. Search for the teacher and his associate was underway and they remained on the run as of Sunday.

An official said four school staff members, including the headmaster, were suspended following the incident.

"After the incident came to light, the accused teacher was suspended. The school's headmaster, two other teachers and a peon were also placed under suspension for alleged negligence in duty," the official said.
