A teacher and a student were hospitalized after a fight broke out between a group of girls outside a school in Massachusetts.

The police responded to reports of an assault at the Young Achievers Science And Math Pilot School in Mattapan, Boston, at 3:28 p.m. Wednesday. After reaching the scene, they found a large group of girls had gotten involved in a fight.

A teacher, who intervened in an attempt to break up the fight, was allegedly kicked and punched several times, Boston Herald reported.

The teacher, whose identity was not revealed by authorities, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the police said. One student was also admitted to the hospital with injuries following the fight. Details related to the extent of the unidentified student's injuries were not immediately clear.

The fight took place after school hours near the campus, according to a spokesperson for the Boston Public Schools district. Young Achievers is a part of the Boston Public Schools system.

The reason behind the fight between the female students remained unknown. No arrests were made in the incident as of Wednesday evening. An open investigation was launched into the matter by the Boston police.

In a statement responding to the incident, Boston Public Schools expressed deep shock and sadness, as per Boston25News.

"We are shocked and deeply saddened by this news. All Boston Public Schools community members deserve to feel safe and free from bullying and violence. Nothing is more important than the safety of our children and staff and providing our young people with a learning environment that makes them feel physically and emotionally safe, respected, and academically challenged," the statement said.

"We are committed to ensuring that all students have access to the social-emotional support they need, and we are grateful to the school staff, BPS Safety Services, and the Boston Police for their quick response. We will not tolerate any forms of violence or aggression within our community," it added.

In an unrelated incident that took place in December 2022, a violent fight broke out between two teenage students outside a Long Island High School. During the fight, one of the teens repeatedly stabbed another with a knife, causing multiple injuries to his body. The 17-year-old attacker was apprehended by the police shortly after the stabbing incident, while he was on his way home.
