Team Go Rocket Comes To 'Pokémon Go' To Kick Off New Worldwide Event For Mobile Gamers
"Pokémon Go" players have an exciting new event to check out in-game.
A brand new update just hit the mobile title from Niantic, which introduces the nefarious Team Rocket. Professor Willow pleads for assistance from trainers worldwide in the new Special Research mission 'Looming in the Shadows.'
This new storyline will find players searching PokéStops around the world as they scour the countryside for items like Mysterious Components. After collecting six, players can work to tackle a series of Team Rocket Team Leaders, who are guarding the ultimate key to the puzzle: an important map needed to face the big Rocket boss of them all.
The final map that's unlocked will lead eager trainers to Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket, and the very same one that's eagerly tried to capture Pikachu throughout the series' lore.
Should you finally defeat a Rocket Leader throughout "Pokémon Go," you'll be rewarded with the chance to capture one of their Shadow Pokémon. Niantic is being pretty cagey at the moment about what exactly that means, but they'll have special abilities that you'll have to figure out after you capture one. Should you defeat Giovanni, you'll get the opportunity to capture a Shadow Legendary Pokémon, which affords you many of the same opportunities.
This is all taking place ahead of the game's November Community Day, which is on Nov. 16. There's also a Gen 5 Legendary called Cobalion that can be found in-game in five-star Raids all the way up until Nov. 26. That should be plenty of time to nab one, if you're lucky.
"Pokémon Go" has steadily been improving in the months since it first debuted. But it may not be everyone's cup of tea, considering it still isn't as full-featured as the core "Pokémon" titles. On Nov. 15, "Pokémon Sword and Shield" will come to Nintendo Switch as an exclusive. A slew of new Pokémon will be introduced in the game, as well as enormous Pokémon battles, new gym leaders, and a new area to explore.
It's a great time to be a Pokémon fan, and it looks like the future is only getting brighter.
