Witticisms, super pranks, ultimate gags, hoaxes and plain lies are searching for fools this day. People turn the most cynical this day so that they don’t look naive, and turn on their gullibility meter at the highest level of alert. But a lot of us are caught off guard by some comic concoctions that mix contemporary humor with ingenious lies which are sometimes delectable.

There are already some nice ones doing the rounds today. Like the story that concocted by a priest in Australia who said he was offering drive-through confessions for his parishioners and the gag that Portugal football superstar Ronaldo will join Spain so that he could help pay off his country's huge national debt. And there was a typical Daily Mirror joke about British government’s plan to tax fresh air.

There is more in the pipeline, especially from the tech giants of the Silicon Valley. Corporate like Google, Microsoft and Apple celebrate the April Fool's Day with a slew of sophisticated pranks.

Here are some April Fool gags which had netizens in splits this year and in the past:

GOOGLE

Google has announced it is recruiting 'Autocompleters'. As a Google Autocompleter, you’ll be expected to successfully guess a user’s intention as he or she starts typing instantly. In a fraction of a second, you’ll need to type in your prediction that will be added to the list of suggestions given by Google. Don’t worry, after a few million predictions you’ll grow the required reflexes, the job posting said.

And then, the tech giant announced its revolutionary 'Gmail Motion' with which users can control Gmail with their own body. This is what Gmail Motion will look and feel like:

Gmail Motion uses your computer's built-in webcam and Google's patented spatial tracking technology to detect your movements and translate them into meaningful characters and commands. Movements are designed to be simple and intuitive for people of all skill levels.

Using Gmail Motion is not only safe but also healthy and fun. As with any physical activity, certain precautions are recommended. First, make sure to clear the area around you. Second, try to take short breaks every 30-40 minutes, just as you would if you were typing. And finally, take time to stretch after each session to give the muscles you'll be using some relief.

In 2010 Google announced that it launched ‘Google translate’ for animals, so that pet owners could really decipher what their pets were 'talking'.

MICROSOFT

In 2008, Xbox 360 maker Microsoft joined the April fool fun by announcing products like wood paneled Vintage Edition Xbox 360, a monstrous wireless headset, an Xbox 360 console designed for outdoor use, and a board game that is both based on and connects to Xbox Live, Shacknews had reported.

TOSHIBA

Toshiba has just announced 'Toshiba Spectacle', which it says is the world's First and Only 3D Monocle. It explains thus: Ready to take movies and games to the next level? Imagine being right in the middle of an action movie scene, or right on the basketball court during the playoffs! With the Spectacle, you’ll experience one-eyed 3D so real, you’d think you were using both eyes!

And Toshiba also offers accessories like Handy Strap in Chain Link, Designer Lenses, Spec-Pouch to enhance the 3D experience.

It played two gags in 2010. The first was 'Scentvisons', which automatically fills your head with the scent of the program you are watching when you don 3D glasses. The other was the Tube Top, an inflatable laptop designed to be used in the bath.

APPLE

Apple has been the butt of most April fool jokes in the Silicon Valley, thanks to its own history! The tech giant was established on April 1, 1976 in Cupertino, California.

One prank played on Apple in 2010 was the announcement made by Australian Macworld that Apple was dropping its computer line in favor of iPhones, iPods, and iPads.

QUALCOMM

Chip maker Qualcomm has announced its 'Way of the dragon retreat', a chipset solution that enables some of the industry's most powerful smartphones on the market today, making them faster, richer, more connected and more energy efficient.

This is why we say that inside Snapdragon powered devices beats the heart of a dragon. This quest for power and perfection is nothing new. Indeed, for billions of years both mankind and scholars alike have sought to achieve such a thing, to find the heart of a dragon within, it said.

And yet, for all our quests across the mystic planes of exigent existences, we seem to have overlooked that real, live dragons have been eating their prey whole here on Earth, right under our noses for the past 4 million years!

GROUPON

Groupon has announced its newest acquisition on April Fool's day. And the acquisition turns out to be April Fool's day itself. It says: For centuries, April Fools’ Day’s intellectual trademark ownership has been uncertain. That’s why we are proud to announce our patent application for April Fools' Day. Everyone's favorite day of daffiness finally has a new owner—Groupon!

Now, when you think of Groupon Presents April Fools’ Day™ (the holiday's officially sanctioned title), you'll think of Groupon—because you and your favorite corporate entities are barred from creating or participating in any April 1 prank without the express written consent of Groupon. Groupon's acquisition of the previously unprofitable April Fools’ Day™ gives consumers more choices and better options. You'll never again be confused by other corporations' April 1 pranks, since Groupon will be taking friendly, but swift, but hostile, legal actions against any nonlicensed April Fools' Day™ joke.
