Apple smashes expectations, shares hit record
Apple Inc's profits and sales streaked past Wall Street's forecasts as iPhone and Mac sales hit quarterly records, sending its shares rocketing to all-time highs on Monday. Sales of Apple's Mac computers jumped 17 percent from a year earlier to 3.05 million in the September quarter, above analysts' average forecast of roughly 2.8 million. See full story.
Motorola rises ahead of next Android phone launch
Shares in Motorola Inc rose over 8 percent on Monday on investor anticipation that its second phone powered by Google Inc's Android system would be a hit at Verizon Wireless. A Verizon Wireless ad campaign for Droid also appeared to confirm for the first time that the No. 1 U.S. mobile service would sell an Android device from Motorola. See full story.
