Microsoft earnings top estimates

Microsoft Corp. reported Friday its quarterly sales fell sharply from a year ago and profit that fell from year-ago results but easily beat Wall Street's forecasts. The software giant's net income fell 18 percent in the last quarter, largely because it deferred revenue to let summertime PC buyers get free upgrades to Windows 7, which launched Thursday. Motorola Droid announces its debut date

Verizon and Motorola launched their Droid Does campaign recently which caused a stir, and they are expected to announce details of the new Motorola Droid on October 28. Motorola had a megahit in 2005 with its Razr handset but has since failed to launch another that can reach its popularity. See full story.

Activist investor Carl Icahn resigns from Yahoo board

Investor Carl Icahn said late Friday he has resigned from the board of directors at Yahoo Inc., saying that there was not a need at this time for an activist investor at the internet company. Icahn said in a statement that there were a number of other companies on which he is currently focused, and praised the company's recent search and advertising partnership with Microsoft Corp. Facebook tweaks user experience with new Live Feed

Facebook rolled out on Friday two new ways that users can see their live feed of their homepage. When users sign into their accounts, they can select to view either the News feed tab or the Live Feed tab. The news feed will feature items Facebook believes are of most value to you, while the live feed will list everything that is going on with your friends. See full story.
