Several people assaulted a teenage attendee of a music festival in Manchester, England, last week after the victim refused to hand them over his luxury apparel.
The 17-year-old, who wished not to be named but identified as a resident of Moston, was leaving Parklife's Heaton Park site at around 10 p.m. Sunday with a friend when they encountered about five or six males, the Manchester Evening News reported.
"He had a Gucci man bag, Gucci hat and Gucci sunglasses. These lads came up to him... then this one came up and said 'I want your f---ing hat,'" the victim's mother said.
"He said, 'you can have my hat,' then they said, 'I want your sunglasses,' and he just told them to 'f--k off.' Then one of them punched him and smashed the glasses."
The victim's friend tried to help, but one of the males came from behind him. Another member of the group then went in front of the victim with a knife and said, "Give me your f---ing bag, there's no CCTV round here, I'll stab you," according to the teen's mother.
A gas canister was used to hit the victim in the head. It was unclear what happened to the assailants after the attack, but the victim was able to leave the festival and speak with a police officer after the incident. He later gave a statement and was taken to a hospital.
The assault, which has been reported to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), resulted in the teen suffering from two broken ribs, a black eye and bruising on his head. It also left the victim feeling "terrified," according to his mother.
A spokesperson for GMP has since issued a statement on the incident.
"Police have received a report of a robbery and assault which took place in Heaton Park at around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday, 12 June 2022. The male victim reports that he was approached by a group of males before having clothing stolen from him and being struck over the head with what is believed to have been a gas canister," the spokesperson said.
"An investigation has been launched and inquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log number 52 of the 13th June 2022."
