A 15-year-old British girl who tested positive for COVID-19 allegedly died on the day she was supposed to get vaccinated.
Jorja Halliday, of Portsmouth, England, died at the Queen Alexandra Hospital last Tuesday after testing positive for the novel coronavirus via a PCR test four days earlier, The Guardian reported.
Preliminary results from the hospital's medical examiner indicated Halliday, who had no underlying health conditions, died of COVID-19-related myocarditis — heart inflammation caused by the virus.
The secondary school student at Portsmouth Academy had allegedly planned to get vaccinated once her isolation period was over, but she died on the day she was scheduled to receive the jab.
Halliday began to isolate at home on Sept. 25 after she developed flu-like symptoms the weekend before she died, a report by the BBC said. Her symptoms worsened and she could no longer eat by Monday because her throat hurt, at which point she was given antibiotics.
The teen was later admitted to the hospital after a doctor found her heart rate was "double what it should have been," according to Halliday's 40-year-old mother, Tracey Halliday.
"They [realized] how serious it was and I was still allowed to touch her, hold her hand, hug her and everything else. They did allow me that," Halliday was quoted as saying.
"I'm at the point where I can't comprehend that it's happened. I was with her the whole time," she added.
Hospital staff attempted to put Jorja on a ventilator so her body could recover, but Tracey claimed her heart rate did not stabilize.
"Her heart couldn’t take the strain,” Tracey said, according to The Gaudian.
Tracey claimed her daughter's death was "heart-wrenching," but she praised the hospital staff for doing "everything they could to save her."
"She had the best of care, I know that they did everything they could to save her," Tracey said.
"It's heart-wrenching because your kids are always meant to outlive you, and that's the one thing I can't get over," she explained.
Jorja was described by her mother as a "loving girl" who had many friends.
"She was very active, she liked to go out and spend time with her friends and loved spending time with her brothers and sisters," Tracey said.
"Growing up, she turned into a beautiful young lady, always wanting to help others, always there for everybody," she added.
