A teenager kidnapped his three-year-old cousin so that he could escape from attending his school examination. The incident took place in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

According to local reports, the mother of the toddler filed a missing persons complaint after she couldn’t find her child anywhere. Police arrived at the home and found a letter during the search. The letter stated that 18-year-old Ranbir, the toddler’s cousin, should be sent to a specific spot to get the child.

Police felt something amiss and questioned Ranbir about it. The teen eventually revealed the truth. He told the police that he had kidnapped the toddler while he was asleep. He then tied the three-year-old boy to a rope before dumping him in a filed. He said he kidnapped the child so that he could escape his grade 12 examination.

"Ranbir confessed having kidnapped the child and tied him with a rope and abandoned him to escape the examination by being asked to search for the kid," police said.

The teen took the police to the field where he had left the toddler. The three-year-old was recovered and the teen was booked for kidnapping.
