'Teen Mom 2’ Star Kailyn Lowry Defends Leah Messer Amid Custody Battle: Corey Simms’ Ex-Wife Responds To ‘Suicidal’ Rumors
“Teen Mom 2” star Kailyn Lowry defended her co-star, Leah Messer, after the West Virginia native lost custody of her 5-year-old twins, Ali and Aleeah. While the twins’ father, Corey Simms, makes Messer out to be a horrible mom, Lowry praised the young mother during an exclusive interview with Radar Online Friday.
“If she has to go through some bumps in the road to get into a healthy place, then nobody should knock her for it,” Lowry, 23, said about Messer. “I think taking care of yourself as a person and a mother first is always important.”
Though she and Messer stay in contact, Lowry didn’t want to talk about Messer’s recent divorce from her second husband, Jeremy Calvert. “I want to stay out of that as much as possible because I feel like it’s such a touchy subject and I don’t want to step on any toes or anything,” she said. “We just talk more of like work and stuff like that and the kids.”
Messer went to rehab for a month over the summer. Though the MTV reality star said she went to treat stress and anxiety, Simms claimed it was for an addiction to prescription pills.
Messer battled rumors that she was suicidal after she lost custody of her twins. She took to Twitter to clear the air. “Articles that are sent to me are unbelievable,” she tweeted Thursday. “I am far from being suicidal because my girls need me happy and healthy! #craziness”
Simms, 25, and his wife Miranda, were given primary custody of the twins last month. Messer can only see her daughters on the weekend.
While Messer wrote everything is fine, she “seems deeply depressed,” an insider told Radar Online in a different story. “She can’t imagine life without her girls… and everyone is very concerned.”
