‘Teen Mom 2’ Star Kailyn Lowry On Marriage To Javi Marroquin: ‘Divorce Is Not An Option’

In MTV's “Teen Mom 2” Season 5 trailer, star Kailyn Lowry can be seen crying and telling the cameras, “I definitely didn’t think this was what I was getting myself into when I got married. I’m so frustrated!” While the 22-year-old reality-TV mom may appear to be at the end of the rope with her marriage to Javi Marroquin ahead of the series return, Lowry now claims their romance is still going strong.

In an interview in the July 21 edition of Life & Style, Lowry admits that, although her 10-month union with the 21-year-old U.S. airman may have it rough patches, they are in it for the long haul.

“Divorce is not an option for us,” Lowry told the magazine. “I made my vows to him that I would fight for my marriage.”

According to Lowry, the bulk of their disagreements stem from the birth of their son, Lincoln, now 8 months. (Lowry also has a 4-year-old son Isaac with her ex-boyfriend Jo Rivera.) “When you have a newborn, things change in your marriage,” Lowry admitted.

While Lowry is usually a big proponent of teen pregnancy prevention, she now says she also wants fans to know about the importance of working as a team when it comes to relationships. “I want fans to learn: Work things out with your significant other and don’t fight with them about things you can’t control," she said. "Choose your battles.”

While fans will have to wait until the show’s July 16 return for more on Lowry's life, the mother of two does expand upon her romance troubles in MTV.com’s sneak peek “Change.” “Two kids is a learning curve,” Lowry can be heard saying, later seen telling Marroquin, “I feel like we’re not happy in our marriage.”

Lowry has been legally wed to Marroqiun since January 2013. The couple celebrated their wedding with family and friends (as well as the “Teen Mom 2” camera crew) at Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey, on Sept. 21, 2013.

“Kailyn and Javi shared one of their memorable dates swimming with the sharks at the aquarium, so the venue was really special to them,” an insider told Radar Online of the reality star couple’s big day, which was put on hold due to Marroquin’s career. “[Kailyn’s] always been obsessed with mermaids and the ocean… She was set on having their wedding there,” added a source.
