‘Teen Mom’ Amber Portwood Posts About ‘Mistakes’ After Rant Against Gary Shirley’s Wife
“Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood shared a cryptic Instagram post about “mistakes” after criticizing her ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley and his wife, Kristina.
During the Tuesday night episode of “Teen Mom OG,” Gary was planning his daughter Leah’s birthday party, but the 12-year-old revealed she was interested in inviting her mother, Amber, to the celebration.
“We don’t really have a bond like that,” Leah told her father. “Twelve years and she hasn’t really done anything. That’s kind of been like Kristina’s spot...All she did was give birth to me.”
Gary advised Leah not to cut her mother out of her life. Kristina described herself to the preteen as “just the bonus mom.”
Following the episode, Amber went on a rant about the lack of things Gary and Kristina do for her daughter despite Leah’s comments about the strained relationship.
However, on Thursday, Amber shared a quote on Instagram about learning from “mistakes” and dealing with the consequences.
“God knows I’m not perfect, either. I’ve made tons of stupid mistakes, and later I regretted them. And I’ve done it over and over again, thousands of times; a cycle of hollow joy and vicious self-hatred. But even so, every time I learned something about myself,” Amber's quote read.
During her IG Live session, Amber appeared to bash Gary and Kristina’s superficial relationship with Leah. “I try to invest time with Leah all the time, all the time. It’s all I ever do,” she said.
“[Kristina] doesn’t take care of my daughter. No, Gary does not clothe her, feeds her. Gary wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for me in the very beginning.”
Although Amber has previously acknowledged her strained relationship with Leah, she suggested her daughter only has a close bond with her stepmother because Kristina buys her nice things.
“[Leah] respects her because she brings her out to Starbucks, gets her nails done, and spends over $1,000 of clothing on her,” she said.
“Hell, I’d respect her too. See, I wasn’t raised that way. I was raised to not spoil my child.”
“Teen Mom OG” airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
