A teen mom has been charged with second-degree murder and child cruelty for drowning her son in a bathtub after falling asleep inside the tub with him. The woman was reportedly high on drugs when the infant died.

Anslie Nicole Brantley, 19, of Coweta, Georgia, was arrested Friday in connection with the incident that happened in June at a Lassiter Road residence, reported WSB-TV.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive child on June 9. On arrival, the officers found the child, 11-month-old Draiden Shane Nichols, being administered CPR by the Coweta County Fire Department. By then, the rescue personnel "suctioned a lot of water from the child" and was in the process of moving him to nearby Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

Brantley's mother, Kelli Gordon, told officers that Brantley and the child were taking a bath in the upstairs bathroom when the incident took place. Gordon said she tried to check on the duo several times as they had been in the bathroom for some time. However, she returned to watching the TV as she got only mumbled responses that she could not understand, reported Law & Crime.

"About 10 or 20 minutes later, Ansley [sic] started screaming. [Redacted] got up and went to Ansley [sic] as she was holding [the infant] and said he can’t breathe, what do I do," Gordon told the officers, as per the outlet.

Gordon immediately took the baby from her arms and began resuscitating, but the child was already blue and cold by then. Though the officers tried to speak to Brantley, she was "not in a state where she was willing to speak."

Further investigation proved that Brantley had taken drugs prior to getting in the tub with her son. She then fell asleep, drowning him.

Deputies also found methamphetamine in the home.

The report added that Gordon was also arrested and charged with possession of narcotics. She has five other children, who are reportedly in the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children’s Services.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation also performed a toxicology test on Brantley and her son, but the results were not available as of writing this.

Brantley is being housed in the Coweta County Jail after being denied bond.
