Ryan Edwards is on the road to recovery after a shocking reveal on “Teen Mom OG” that he was struggling with substance abuse issues.

Ex-fiancée Maci Bookout revealed during a Season 6 episode of the MTV docu-series her eldest son’s father was grappling with substance abuse issues, claiming those closest to him were “afraid of what it will look like” if he got help. However, he seems to have now done that.

According to reports, Edwards has been in rehab for two weeks. Before entering the facility, he and current fiancée Mackenzie Standifer wed in Hamilton County, Tennessee in May, Us Weekly reports. Other sources told E! Online that Edwards’ “doing well” in treatment.

News that the father of one has been checked into rehab comes just days after a Radar Online interview with Bob Standifer Jr., Mackenzie’s father, claimed the family had an intervention of sorts planned. On June 1, the publication released an article in which Edwards’ father-in-law said they planned to “get together and talk about” getting him in treatment. Mackenzie’s father admitted that he was uncomfortable talking about Edwards without him or his daughter being present, adding that “Ryan is a great guy.”

“Mackenzie and Ryan are adults. I won’t talk without them present. Anything we talk about, we’re all going to sit down together,” he told the publication.

Mackenzie’s been tight-lipped on matters involving her hubby’s health. In the midst of the drama, she tweeted a message that some “Teen Mom OG” fans believed was related, though she provided no context. Mackenzie has been otherwise silent on social media, even going as far as making her Twitter account private.

“Strong is beautiful,” she wrote.

Before going radio silent, Ryan’s wife defended him on Twitter. After Bookout’s emotional reveal about Edwards’ battle with addiction on an episode of “Teen Mom OG,” Mackenzie lashed out at her beau’s critics. She suggested that rather than tear someone down, haters “spend time praying for us.”

“Come talk to me when you’ve walked one damn mile in my shoes. Then see where you’re at. Until then, hush,” she wrote.

Bookout opened up about her ex’s demons over the course of two episodes of the MTV docuseries. In the first, she was careful about what she said for fear of people jumping to conclusions. In the next, she tearfully opened up to “Teen Mom OG” co-stars Catelynn Lowell and Amber Portwood about her fears involving Edwards.

“He would do it,” Bookout said of Edwards seeking treatment. “It’s everyone else around him that’s afraid to admit it. He’s got me. Everyone else around him is too afraid of what it will look like more than his health. It’s all denial. The hardest thing is to see Ryan not love himself. He’s a person who deserves to love himself.”

The “Teen Mom OG” star was adamant about getting Edwards help, whether she had the backing of his family or not. She told husband Taylor McKinney that she was through “crying in our bed” about Edwards. Instead, she planned to demand he go to treatment.

“I’m going to be like, ‘you have to go to rehab,’” she said. “Right now it’s about saving his life. Most nights I’m crying in our bed talking to you about whether or not today is the day he’s going to die.”

Edwards’ rehab stint won’t be featured in the current Season of “Teen Mom OG.” Tune in Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on MTV for more drama.
