A teenager in the United Kingdom was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday for slashing a woman with a machete and hurling racist slurs at her as the former's own mother cheered him on.

The incident took place on April 13 in Anfield, Liverpool, at around 7.15 p.m. when the victim's child was playing on the street with other children, while she was chatting with her friends, Washington News Today reported.

The accused, Kurtis Williams, 15, was riding past the street on a bike when he pulled over and slashed the victim's face with a machete, inflicting a 13 cm long wound that cut her cheek open from ear to the jaw, Liverpool Echo reported. The attack occurred in front of the victim's child.

The victim, identified as Zakiya Janny, 36, reportedly knew her attacker previously. Williams had allegedly made vile remarks, indicating his intentions to kill Janny's ex-boyfriend and their 4-year-old daughter.

Prosecuting attorney Simon Duncan said during Williams' trial Friday the youngster wanted to burn the victim's house and the little girl.

"He shouted [the N-word]' and 'I'm going to burn the house and the baby, watch later," Duncan said in court, according to the Liverpool Echo. "It appears that was addressed to Francis O'Malley, who said the defendant was with a group of other youths."

"(The victim) told him to go away. Francis O'Malley argued with the defendant, who threatened 'I will cut you up," Duncan added. "The defendant also repeatedly called him a [N-word], as did other members of the group."

On the day of the incident, "The defendant struck a downward blow with the blade across her face. The defendant then ran off. The group of youths scattered. It was a completely unprovoked attack," Duncan added, according to Liverpool Echo.

The judge said the teen's mother appeared to be trying to stop him, but she was actually shouting words of encouragement. "When you say she was shouting after him, the witness says she was shouting encouragement," the judge said.

Witnesses at the scene tended to the victim before she was rushed to the hospital.

Janny was scarred for life after suffering what she described as "life-changing injuries" in the attack.
