‘Teen Wolf’ Actor Cody Saintgnue Talks Brett’s Loyalty, Family And The Darkness Of Season 5B
“Teen Wolf” fans love Scott’s (Tyler Posey) pack, but there’s one wolf outside the tightknit group that fans have grown to love. Brett Talbot (Cody Saintgnue) is a student at the local prep school and a member of Satomi’s (Lily Mariye) pack. However, the Beacon Hills High group has begun to turn to him more and more for help on the MTV drama. Saintgnue spoke to International Business Times about the character’s loyalty and his hopes for the new season.
Brett will continue to cross paths with Scott’s pack, don’t expect him to join the group officially. “The fans would tweet me that every single day,” Saintgnue told IBT. “But I know Brett’s very loyal. I think maybe under a certain circumstance. If it seemed right, if it seemed like the right move, if it seemed like the best integrity thing to do, I think Brett would do it. But do I think he would just leave the pack just to join like a pack that’s 'stronger' or something? I don’t think so.”
Saintgnue hadn’t started filming “Teen Wolf” Season 5B when we spoke, but he hoped that Brett, who he described as “a bisexual, Buddhist werewolf,” would have a little more drama this season. “I think there could be a really cool love triangle,” Saintgnue said. “It could be like Brett might be interested in Mason [Khylin Rambo], and there might be a girl that pops into the picture. I would like for them to dive into the duality of Brett because I think there is a lot of stuff that they could do with it.”
Even if Brett’s love life isn’t explored, Saintgnue still hopes that Brett’s family life is shown a little more. “You know, there might be some of that this season. There just might be,” he teased when asked if Brett’s family would be involved this season. “I think Brett’s family, what he has left, means everything to him because his family died in a fire, and so I think that would be really cool.”
The actor couldn’t give many specific details about “Teen Wolf” Season 5B, but he teased this: “I think that it might be one of the darkest times the pack has ever gone through and it’ll be interesting to see how everyone gets through it.”
Though Saintgnue hadn’t read any scripts at the time of the interview, he isn’t just blindly speculating without any background knowledge of the show. He has been on “Teen Wolf” since Season 4, but the actor knew the MTV hit well before he started appearing on it. He started watching after one of his the boys in his acting class snagged the lead role. “I just remember like going to class and being like, ‘What happened to Tyler [Posey]?’ And they were like, ‘He booked some pilot called ‘Teen Wolf.’’ ... I just remember watching and thinking it’s a really good show. It’s really well written. And it’d be cool to get on that show one day.”
“Teen Wolf” Season 5B premieres Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. EST on MTV.
