A teenager has been accused of recklessly running over a disabled man and dragging him through a parking lot in Austin, Texas, before driving off. Authorities have released video footage of the incident on social media following the suspect's arrest.

Pablo Antonio Avila-Banagas, 17, was taken into custody on Sept. 9 and charged for the incident that took place on Sept. 3, according to the New York Post.

The Austin Police Department released the video Tuesday, showing the victim making his way through a parking lot in a wheelchair on North Lamar Boulevard.

In the footage, one can see the man gesturing at the approaching vehicle to slow down. However, its driver appears to pay no heed and hits the man. The driver then drives off, leaving the victim behind with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect reportedly rode over the sidewalk, nearly hit a telephone pole and almost crashed into another driver while driving away from the scene.

An Austin Fire Department truck was in the area at the time and stopped to help the victim at the scene.

The man was taken to the hospital with a cracked skull and a fractured pelvis. He was also found to have a brain bleed, facial injuries and lacerations to his head, KVUE reported.

The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was identified, and Avila-Banagas was named as the suspect. The teenager was booked into Travis County Jail on Sept. 9.

Avila-Banagas is facing multiple charges, such as failure to stop and render aid (serious bodily injury), a third-degree felony; injury to a disabled person, a second-degree felony; unlawful carry of a weapon (firearm), a Class A misdemeanor and failure to identify in relation to the case, a Class B misdemeanor, according to the police department.
