Ten Hag Reveals Big 'Danger' Garnacho May Face After Manchester United's 2-1 Win
KEY POINTS
- Man Utd defeated Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday
- Garnacho netted a stoppage-time winner for Man Utd
- Man Utd have 26 points from 14 league games
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has heaped praise on Alejandro Garnacho but has also pointed out a big "danger" for his development.
Garnacho scored an injury-time goal for Manchester United in their 2-1 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday. After Christian Eriksen put the Red Devils 1-0 up in the first half at Craven Cottage, Welsh winger Daniel James netted an equalizer for the hosts in the 61st minute.
The 18-year-old, who replaced Anthony Martial in the 72nd minute, netted a dramatic stoppage-time winner to earn three crucial points for the Red Devils. It has been a memorable week for the teenage sensation. He assisted two goals in Manchester United's 4-2 win over Aston Villa in the League Cup on Thursday. Two days later, the Argentinian forward clinched his maiden Premier League goal.
Since Garnacho is not a part of Argentina's World Cup squad, Ten Hag believes the international break could disrupt the momentum the young winger was building.
After Manchester United's victory at Craven Cottage, Ten Hag said the World Cup period could be potentially "dangerous" for Garnacho and advised him to not "lose focus."
"He has had such an impact and it shows the talent, but he still has a long way to go and he has to keep his feet on the ground. He now has momentum and if his attitude is good he will keep going. The danger is it's four weeks, no games and [potentially] losing focus. If he stays with the same attitude his progress will keep going, if not it will be the other way around," Ten Hag told reporters.
It was earlier reported that Garnacho was not picked regularly in the first team because of his "attitude." During Manchester United's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, Garnacho was prevented from playing as a disciplinary measure after turning up late for team meetings twice.
Manchester United are fifth in the Premier League table with 26 points from 14 games. The Red Devils are three points away from the top four and 11 behind table-toppers Arsenal. Post the World Cup break, Ten Hag and Co. will return to action by hosting Burnley at Old Trafford in a League Cup fixture on Dec. 20.
