Christopher Nolan’s latest movie “Tenet” continues to be a success in the international scene as it crossed the monumental figure of $250 million at the global box office.
The sci-fi epic earned $25 million in markets other than the U.S., taking its foreign tally to $214 million, Variety reported. However, the film continues to struggle in the United States and is raking in lower than the projected figures.
The movie earned just $4.7 million during its third week in the U.S. and took its domestic tally to a total of $36.1 million. With a figure of $250.1 million, the movie has become the fourth movie to breach the $250 million mark globally. Only “The Eight Hundred” ($425 million), “Bad Boys For Life” ($424.6 million), “Sonic The Hedgehog” ($308.2 million) have earned more than Nolan’s espionage thriller this year.
Critics have already announced their verdict on Nolan’s “Tenet.” The film currently holds a score of 73% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The film stars John David Washington in the lead role and the cast includes Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Clemence Poesy, Himesh Patel, and Dimple Kapadia.
Meanwhile, “The Eight Hundred” beat Disney’s “Mulan” in China once again. According to a report by Variety, “Mulan” could only manage to rake in $6.47 million in its second week in China while the war-epic film tripled its earnings to claim the top spot at the Chinese box office.
“The Eight Hundred” tells the story of a cluster of soldiers and draft dodgers who put up a four-day defense as Japanese soldiers try to pin down China.
The film currently holds a score of 82% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
Meanwhile, a recent report suggested that only 29% of Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. paid $29.99 to watch “Mulan” on the platform. Numerous Chinese viewers were not satisfied with the film, calling it “inauthentic” and some even said it is the "worst 'Mulan' in history.”
The film stars Yifei Liu, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Gong Li, and Jet Li in pivotal roles.
“Mulan” is currently streaming live on Disney+.
