The big three of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have dominated the tennis scene for years. While this has been the norm for the professional scene, French star Jo-Wilfred Tsonga said that sharing the court with them are the moments that he treasure.
There has been no other star to ever overcome Federer, Nadal or Djokovic in the past few years. The last time a player outside the three won a major title was way back in 2016 where Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka won the Wimbledon and the US Open respectively. It has been such a dominant display for the trio that nobody has come near to their level.
The way the three have hoarded the titles have made it for the rising stars to reach the elusive goal of winning a Major title. It’s Federer’s 20 Grand Slams that stand out as the sports record for male athletes. This is followed by Nadal’s 19 that is highlighted by his twelve French Open titles. To add to these, Djokovic isn’t far behind with 17 under his belt.
For athletes like Tsonga, he shared that he doesn’t have any ill feelings about being in this current generation. The athletic power hitter shared that he even enjoys those moments when he’s matched up with them. Per Tennis World USA, Tsonga said that playing against the big three were some great highlights in his career.
"I see the glass half full. I was able to play against these players there, even sometimes beat them in great moments,” Tsonga said.
It’s interesting to note that Tsonga entered the tennis scene as one of the more explosive players on tour. One of the more impressive points in his career included a straight-set victory over Nadal in the 2008 Australian Open. It’s regarded as a classic matchup as it’s rare to see a powerhouse like Nadal fall in such a manner. Tsonga defeated Nadal, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.
Despite falling to Djokovic in the finals in four sets, Tsonga has been able to prove to the world that he’s had his share of phenomenal moments on the tennis court.
