TENNIS: Nadal Wins Another Monte Carlo Masters Title
Number-one ranked Rafael Nadal took home yet another Monte Carlo Masters trophy, this time by defeating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
It is Nadal's seventh-straight Monte Carlo Masters title, and 44th title in his career.
Nadal was down 5-4 in the third set, but won the last three games. Number-six ranked Ferrer had earlier described Nadal as the greatest clay-court player of all-time, and he learned first hand how great Nadal is on his favorite surface.
But the match wasn't a breeze for Nadal. There was a total of six service breaks in the two-set match.
Nadal continues his dominancein Monte Carlo, having won 37 straight matches at the event, as the French Open looms just one month away.
To get to the final, Nadal defeated Andy Murray in three sets, after beating Ivan Ljubicic, Richard Gasquet, Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets.
For Ferrer it was an excellent tournament run. The 29-year-old fourth-seed defeated Jurgen Melzer in straight sets in the semi-final, and Viktor Troicki in the quarter-finals.
