  • Novak Djokovic recently won his 17th Grand Slam and is seeking more
  • He reveals that his game is flawed
  • The next Grand Slam will be the French Open

Novak Djokovic is currently ranked as one of the best tennis players in the world. He is chasing Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the Grand Slam count as both players have 20 and 19 titles respectively. Djokovic currently has 17 majors and is seeking to gather more by the end of his career. He is the youngest among the big three at only 32 years old.

While he has gathered countless championships and titles already, the Serbian tennis star revealed that he has a lot of weaknesses to improve on. Per Essentially Sports, Djokovic shared that he takes these opportunities to grow and learn more. “Obviously hasn’t worked always perfectly, but I understand and I accept that I’m flawed as everybody else. I think to be conscious of that, trying to work on yourself." He emphasized that the work done internally for oneself is the most crucial part of being a professional athlete at his level.

He adds that he’s constantly finding ways to get better and not get comfortable with what he has. He shared that he’s constantly challenged every day and wants to overcome these daily tests. “I am continuously trying with my team to come up with different ways of training. Approaching things like recovery or mental training, emotional training. I think a combination of all these different elements gives you the formula for success,” he added.

Djokovic’s fitness and flexibility play to his strengths, as he’s able to defensively counter his opponents’ strokes. He’s able to stretch his body at the most appropriate times and he knows when to stay aggressive when necessary. He’s able to endure long matches with his peak physical attributes coupled with tough mental stability.

The next major coming up is the French Open. Djokovic has four finals appearances on Roland Garros but he’s only claimed the title once in his career. He’s aiming for his 18th major and is seeking for a chance to get a coveted Golden Slam. While Nadal stands in his way as the biggest threat, the next generation of superstars such as Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev is not far behind as possible future Grand Slam winners.
