  • The clay-court season is approaching but the coronavirus threat persists
  • Rafael Nadal is the greatest clay-court player in the current generation
  • Nadal shared that Roger Federer is also one of the best on clay

The world is currently stunned with everything that has been going around with the coronavirus pandemic. Multiple sporting events including several tennis tournaments have been canceled. The first big tournament was the Indian Wells Masters and multiple events followed soon after that.

This puts the French Open at risk, as it is one of the four tennis majors of the year. Rafael Nadal is known to be the king of this tournament, as he undeniably is the most unstoppable player on this surface. Nadal has won a total of 19 Grand Slams and 12 of these have come from Roland Garros. It’s no question that Nadal is the greatest clay-court player of all time – thus making his insight hold more meaning.

Nadal recently shared that he thinks his rival and crowd favorite Roger Federer is one of the best clay-court players of all time. This is a huge endorsement as Nadal is no question on top of the mountain regarding the clay court surface.

Federer was a finalist on five separate occasions and out of those five, he was able to claim the title in 2009.

“I don’t see a lot of players that have been in all that final rounds of French Open in a row. So that says that Roger is one of the best clay‑court players of the history probably,” the Spaniard said per way of Essentially Sports.

Federer and Nadal have a lot of duels together. They will forever be linked side by side as one of the greatest rivalries in the sport. Although the current era is dominated by the big three including Novak Djokovic, there is no other hyped matchup between Federer and Nadal. The Fedal head to head matchup has Nadal winning 24 times over Federer’s 16.

While there the major sporting events are on hold, Federer continues to recover from his injuries. Earlier this year the Swiss legend announced that he would be missing a good portion of the season to recover from his knee surgery.
