Summer is the time for leisurely couch naps and refreshingly light cocktails. Throwing back a few drinks is a great way of beating the sweltering heat or for feeling a bit adventurous.

Every cocktail lover has one exceptionally satisfying recipe they whip out during every occasion. Sampling a new drink is always fun, especially one that is indulgent and brings cheers to a party. Well, we have a suggestion up our sleeve -- the incredibly peppery and spicy ginger margarita.

While drinking a lot of cocktails could mean you are adding up a lot of calories, these margarita drinks are relatively low on calories and easy to make.

Here is a simple recipe for the boozy cocktail: (Courtesy: Foodnetwork.com)

Ingredients:

  • Sugar- 3/4 cup
  • Water- 1 1/2 cups
  • 1 large ginger, peeled and cut into coins or julienned
  • Bar sugar
  • Freshly grated nutmeg
  • Good quality tequila (2 ounces) or reposado
  • Lime juice and lime wedges for garnish

Procedure:

Combine sugar and water in a pan and bring it to a light simmer, waiting for the sugar to dissolve. Add some ginger and steep for 30 minutes for the root to release its flavor. Combine the remaining ginger and maple syrup and blend them into a puree. Strain the pulp and store it in a lightly sealed jar or bottle. You can preserve it in the refrigerator for days. Pour some bar sugar onto a plate and sprinkle it with some grated nutmeg and give them a good mix. Add in the tequila, lime juice, 5 ounces ginger-maple syrup and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake it to perfection. Now, decorate the rim of the serving glass with the lime wedge and dip in sugar/nutmeg mixture, ice, and lastly the contents of the shaker. Sprinkle the drink with some grated nutmeg before serving.
