Tesla Cybertruck 'Boat Mode'? Fan-made Video Shows Pickup Truck Floating In The Ocean
KEY POINTS
- Tesla Cybertruck boat mode video on Instagram
- Elon Musk is passionate about dual-use electric vehicles that operate on water
- Tesla ATV will be an accessory for Cybertruck
Tesla boss Elon Musk has reason to be excited as his passion for a car that works on the water was teased on an Instagram video showing how the newly unveiled Tesla Cybertruck works on a ‘boat mode’ in the sea.
The three-dimensional rendering of the futuristic car-boat in the ocean has a man in the truck’s “vault”. He is looking happy and savors the beautiful weather while catching fish in the floating Tesla, says the Teslarati report.
The ‘Boat Mode’ Cybertruck must ignite Elon Musk’s amphibious car dreams, the report asserts.
The video communicates to fishermen how Tesla’s pickup could double up as an amphibious car in boat mode. Musk has expressed his passion for making a submarine car in many media interactions.
Water car ambitions
Musk’s passion for a water car model was evident when he shared Tesla’s design for an all-electric submarine vehicle, resembling the car in the James Bond film, “The Spy Who Loved Me.”
Six years ago, Musk purchased the Lotus Espirit S1car that featured in the mid-1970 movie.
When asked by a shareholder if the company would ever develop a car that would work underwater, Musk said, “You can have a submarine car although the market will be small. Maybe we’ll make one as a show car.”
Existing Tesla vehicles also have a record of doing well in deep water situations although no Tesla vehicle has faced a big body of water like an ocean.
Reports of how a Model S navigated flood-filled tunnel in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2016 have been viral and in May 2019, again another Tesla Model S “floated” through a flooded neighborhood in the United States.
Given Musk’s passion in so many fields such as high-performance electric vehicles and space ships for inter planet travels, it looks plausible that Tesla CEO might think of creating a car boat that will operate in water and help in oceanic activities including fishing.
All-terrain vehicle to accompany Cybertruck
Meanwhile, Elon Musk is on record that Tesla will roll out an electric all-terrain vehicle (ATV) as an add-on to the Cybertruck that will go into production in late 2021.
Musk gave this surprise at a presentation, CNN reported.
“We also made an ATV,” Musk told the audience. The two-seater electric ATV will be an optional accessory of the Cybertruck, Musk has clarified. The trademarked name is Cyberquad.
However, Tesla has not divulged any other information about the ATV in terms of price, performance figures or its range.
