Tesla has sweetened its existing Referral program with a 500 percent top up by offering 5,000 miles or 7500 kilometers of free supercharging for buyers of Model S, Model X and Model 3 who used referral codes.

The incentives will apply to both the referrer and the new buyer.

Relaying the new update to car owners via the ‘Loot Box’ of the Tesla app, the message said, “You and anyone using your referral code to buy a Tesla will receive 5,000 free Supercharger miles!

The Supercharging offer covers all new purchases including new leases before May 28th. But the five-fold expansion in free supercharging will be valid only until May 28. After that, it will be back to 1,000 miles of free supercharging as before.

Win a roadster supercar

Tesla’s 1,000 miles of free Supercharging treats both the owner who makes the referral and the buyer who takes the referral as beneficiaries.

Additionally, there is the opportunity to win a Model Series Y every month and a Roadster on a quarterly basis. The new update says Tesla owners enjoying free Supercharging will now get 10 chances to win the prizes.

Tesla’s last revamp of the Referral program was in March after the previous incentive program looked costly and entailed giving away 160 Founder Series Roadsters each with a price tag of $250k.

The costly program ended on February 2, and the reworked Referral Program that came up in March provided exclusive rewards but made sure that it was cost-efficient.

“We’ve heard from our customers that the Referral Program was one of their favorite reasons to tell their friends about Tesla, so today, we’re introducing an all-new Referral Program to give customers another way to share what they love about their cars,” Tesla stated in their new program announcement.

The order book will improve

According to analysts, the new referral program will boost the order book without escalating costs. Increasing the number of chances per referral do not pinch as the number of vehicles to be given away is the same.

Of course, Supercharging miles will add some cost to Tesla, but that will be minimal.

Since a 12-month limit applies to leverage credits, it is unlikely that Tesla owners will exhaust the Supercharger network that much.

The referral boost will certainly perk up orders by the end of the quarter and Tesla will have ample time to deliver vehicles by late June.
