Tesla Jobs: Elon Musk Is Again Hiring With 'No Prior Experience Needed'

This time Tesla CEO Elon Musk means it when he says, "No experience required." Musk set off a ton of "tweet-erest" when he tweeted Sunday his Solar Roof Team is hiring people with absolutely no experience required.

That's because Solar Roof wants to hire people to install Solar Roof, which are energy saving glass roof tiles made by SolarCity Corporation, a Tesla Inc. subsidiary. On-the-job training will be provided.

As Musk said in his tweet: "Tesla is ramping up Solar Roof installation across the USA! Training will be provided, so no prior experience needed. Apply at ....” Clicking this tweet leads one to a webpage with the title, "Join the Solar Roof Team."

Musk then sent a follow-up tweet saying: "Looking forward to international expansion later this year."

Launched in August 2016 but languishing ever since, Tesla Solar Roof "provides the lowest cost per watt of any national solar panel provider and is comparable in price to a typical roof with solar panels," said a description on the product's website.

Tesla is "hiring roofers and installers who will work together to deploy Solar Roof in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia."

Sounds like thousands of jobs given the roofing and installing teams will have to work in 17 States.

And what product will these new people be working on? The product is Tesla Solar Roof, a premium and durable glass roof tile that has integrated solar technology and can power a home with 100% renewable energy. Each Solar Roof is custom designed to maximize energy production while maintaining a seamless aesthetic, according to Tesla.

In a Tesla Solar Roof, the photovoltaic electrical energy generating devices and system comprise the entire roof surface, instead of merely being a scaffolding mounting solar panels on an existing roof.

"It’s not a thing on a roof. It is the roof," said Musk explaining Tesla Solar Roof and how his product differs from the rest.

Tesla began limited production of the tiles in August 2017 and testing in January 2018 but by July 2019 had connected just a dozen or so solar-integrated roofs to the grid despite receiving deposits from interested homeowners.

In October 2019, Tesla announced "Version 3" of the solar roof design. It expected the price for V3 to be lower than the price of a new roof. V3 is the first Tesla Solar Roof version Tesla believes is ready to be ready for mass installations. Tesla plans to "ramp production to as many as 1,000 new roofs per week."
