Tesla Recall 2022: Is Your Car Affected By This Massive 1.1M Vehicle Recall?
Tesla (TSLA) has issued a recall for nearly 1.1 million electric vehicles because the power windows may pinch the driver's or passenger's fingers when closing.
The recall affects a massive number of models, including certain 2017 to 2022 Model 3, 2020 to 2021 Model Y, and 2021 to 2022 Model S and Model X vehicles.
The recall notice said that the issue with the EVs stems from the window automatic reversal system. This system may not retract properly after detecting an obstruction, which could pinch the driver or passenger of the vehicle when retracting, causing an injury.
The window issue is also a violation of a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for power windows.
Tesla discovered the window problem during production testing back in August. It said that it was not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the recall.
To repair the window problem, Tesla will perform an over-the-air software update on the automatic window reversal system at no charge to impacted vehicle owners.
A recall notice is expected to be mailed to affected Tesla owners on Nov. 15.
Questions about the recall can be directed to Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.
As of Thursday at 9:56 a.m. ET, shares of Tesla were trading at $295.73, down $5.07 or 1.69%.
