The authorities in Texas have been searching for a man, who was caught on camera stealing a lawn mower and then mowing the grass in the victim's front and backyards.
The Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) released video footage Thursday in which the suspect, identified as Marcus Hubbard, was seen carrying out the bizarre act. The timestamp in the surveillance video indicated the incident happened just before 8.00 p.m. ET. The footage was taken on April 1.
The police said in the accompanying statement that Hubbard ran off with the device after the authorities arrived at the spot.
"Marcus Hubbard was seen on security video burglarizing a residential building, he removed property from within the building without owners’ consent," the PAPD wrote in the statement. "He then is seen on Security video mowing the homeowners front and back yard."
Following this, Hubbard had reportedly abandoned the lawn mower in a nearby alleyway.
"Upon officers arrival Hubbard is seen running from the area while dragging the lawn mower with him. He abandons the lawn mower in an alley and evades apprehension," the statement mentioned.
Hubbard now has an active warrant issued for his arrest, according to the Washington Examiner.
"Hubbard currently has an outstanding warrant for burglary of a building," the police statement said.
In the video, Hubbard is seen operating the lawn mower in what looks like the backyard of the house from where he had stolen the device.
Hubbard even filled the mower up with gasoline before he stole it, the video showed. The Port Arthur Police Department urged anyone with information relating to the theft to contact the cops or Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas. The police added those who call the department's tip line will be able to do so confidentially and would be given a cash reward.
In July 2019, the Port Arthur News had reported that a man named Marcus Renard Hubbard, 28, had been indicted for "evading detention with prior convictions." However, it was unclear whether it was the same individual, who was connected with the recent lawn mower theft incident.
