Texas Man Who Went Missing While Camping Found Dead In Canyon Lake
The body of a 22-year-old man, who went missing days ago while camping with his friends in Texas, was found in Canyon Lake.
Aamir Ali's body was found around 2 p.m. Wednesday after a days-long search, the Comal County Sheriff's Office said.
The search for the Houston man began after he was reported missing on Dec. 2 following a camping trip at Potters Creek Park on the shores of Canyon Lake, ABC13 reported. Canyon Lake is popularly known as one of the "deadliest lakes."
The victim's friends told his brother Quasam Ali that he went for a walk by himself at around 9 p.m. and never returned. Aamir's friends began looking for him at the campsite and found his personal belongings by the shore of the lake.
"His phone, his headphones, his wallet... his clothing and his t-shirt, his pants and underwear were found by the lake," Quasam previously told KPRC 2.
Officials later launched a manhunt for the missing adult that went on for days.
"We're really on the edge and we're trying to keep going. We have gotten a lot of support from the community and they're super helpful," the brother told WTSP Tuesday, as the search continued.
The search eventually came to an end when a dive team found Aamir's body in Canyon Lake on Wednesday. However, the circumstances around Aamir's death were not immediately clear.
" ... The body of Aamir Ali from Houston, Texas was located in Canyon Lake near Potters Creek Park by Blue Diver Search and Recovery Team," the Comal County Sheriff's Office said in an update. "Ali went missing Friday night while camping with friends at Potters Creek Park in Canyon Lake. He was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Judge Saunders. Next of kin has been notified."
A former University of Houston student, Aamir majored in marketing and last attended the university in the Spring of 2021.
Nina Glass with Search and Rescue San Antonio shared the details of prolonged dangers around Canyon Lake.
"This lake is known to be one of the deadliest lakes as far as drownings are concerned. There's a lot of riptides effects in this lake as well as ledges and deep drop-offs," Glass said, as per KHOU 11.
