A Texas mom set new parenting goals when she was caught on camera tackling a man who was allegedly peeping through her teenage daughter’s bedroom window.
The incredible tackle was captured on a police dashcam. The dashcam footage of the Jan. 31 incident, recently obtained by ABC 7, showed the mother, Phyllis Pena, running up to the suspect as he attempted to flee, tripping him over and tackling him to the ground until help arrived.
The police were then informed about the man, and Pena’s 15-year-old daughter helped her hold the suspect until the officers arrived.
The cops then detained the suspect, Zane Hawkins, 19, the outlet reported.
"It was a pretty good tackle," Sgt. Roy Welch with the Lake Jackson Police Department told ABC 7.
"The cop fist-bumped me and he was like, 'Hey, so I heard the (Houston) Texans are looking for a new linebacker," Pena told the outlet.
"My kids are my life and just making sure I protect them, pretty much," NBC 12 quoted Pena as saying.
“It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themselves in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody,” Welch told the outlet.
The teenager wasn’t in the room when the man was peeping into her room, NBC-affiliated KPRC-TV reported.
Hawkins was booked into jail and was facing a slew of charges including possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest and resisting arrest.
In October 2019, a South Florida man beat a person to death for allegedly peeping through a window to watch him have sex with his girlfriend. The couple was going to have intercourse when Victor Vickery, 30, spotted Asaad Akar, 57, stealthily looking into the window. Vickery ran barefoot and naked to confront Akar before fatally beating him. The responding cops found the victim in a pool of blood and a medical examiner concluded Akar died of blunt force trauma. An investigation revealed that Akar had a history of peeping through windows.
