A man fatally shot his girlfriend, shot her daughter before killing himself in a murder-suicide case in south Fort Worth, Texas, on Wednesday. The shooter was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as 41-year-old Cory Lashaun James.

Police told local media that the initial 911 call came as a suicide attempt. When officers responded to the scene, they found the three people inside the home with gunshot wounds.

Fort Worth police said James allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend the morning of the incident. When the daughter attempted to calm the situation, James shot both victims and himself, ABC-affiliated television station WFAA reported. James initially survived the gunshot wound to his upper torso and head but later died in a hospital.

The daughter survived the shooting incident but her mother, identified as Blanca Estela Rodriguez, 41, died at the scene.

According to Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Rodriguez and James both lived in the home where the shooting occurred.

“At this time we’re not looking for anybody else and we want to note the general public is not – we don’t feel they’re in any danger at this point,” Fort Worth police spokesman Buddy Calzada told the local newspaper.

The shooting incident occurred the same morning after Fort Worth’s homicide rate became a topic during the first presidential debate. During the debate, President Donald Trump claimed that crime has become rampant in Democratic-run cities over the last few months.
